  • Colander After cooking the pasta, you'll need to drain it, so a colander is necessary.
  • Food Processor or Mortar and Pestle To make the pesto sauce, you can use a food processor or a mortar and pestle to blend the ingredients together.
  • Cutting board and knife You'll need a cutting board and a sharp knife to chop the ingredients for the pesto sauce.
  • Spatula or spoon A spatula or spoon is useful for stirring the pasta as it cooks.
  • Grater If you choose to grate your own Parmesan cheese, you'll need a grater.

  • 1  (16 ounce) package pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½  cup  chopped onion
  • 2 ½  tbsp pesto
  • salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp  grated Parmesan cheese
